Pentax Q Review

So a couple months ago I bought the Pentax Q camera from Groupon. I thought I'd review it for anyone interested in purchasing one. First off, I am not a professional photographer. I would consider myself a photography enthusiast, but definitely not a pro. I own a Nikon D40 and a couple lenses, a Nikon CoolPix (everyone needs a point-and-shoot), and that's the extent of my photography hardware. I love to use my photographs for scrapbooking and mixed media art, so I like weird filters and effects for my pictures just as much as an unedited photo.

Enough about my photography habits. I absolutely love my little white Pentax Q. The camera is so cute and has a vintage-like look. It's a little bigger and heavier than a point-and-shoot, but not by much. It's light enough to carry around in your purse, but probably too big to put in your jeans pocket (I guess this depends on your gender: for women who wear form-fitting jeans, this will not fit, for guys who wear loose pants, it will fit).

The filters and effects provide hours of photo fun. Yes, you can buy a camera and then edit a photo, but there's something so fun about shooting a photo with a fun filter. The one thing reviews didn't mention about the Q is the lack of zoom feature. This is not your typical point-and-shoot. You can change the lenses, but the lens that comes with the Q is not a zoom lens. A zoom lens is about $200 on Amazon. I was fine with not having a zoom lens, but if that's a concern for you, be prepared to dish out an extra couple hundred dollars for a better lens.

Here are a few unedited photos that I took with the Q:

No filter or effect
Posterization Effect

No filter or effect

Black and white

Toy Camera filter

HDR effect

Hopefully this helps for anyone who is considering purchasing a Pentax Q!
